About
Me: Thomas E. Jones:
I'm
a part-time technology enthusiast who lives in south Minneapolis Metro
area. I've began my adult-hood as an electrical engineer but had
been interested in science, technology, and electronics since I was a
kid.
My interest in antiques and collectibles started with
turn-of-the-century electro therapeutic devices, the "quack-shock-boxes"
that we've all seen in antique stores. My interests then included
antique medical devices and items, and antique microscopes. More
recently, early computers have been of interest to me. I've
acquired over the years a large collection of computers and memorabilia.
I remember the different world of electronic hobbyists of the 1970's,
when each town had a Radio Shack where you could buy a microprocessor or
electrolytic capacitors, or most 7400 series TTL chips (yes, today's
Radio Shack only carries a hint of this.) The hobby electronics and
computer enthusiasts grew out of the Ham Radio interest groups of the
1950's and 60's. Now, with cheap cellular phones and long-range
"walkie-talkies" such hobby groups are dying out. Fewer
American
teens even know what computer programming is, much less what how to
interface a microprocessor. In the interest of preserving the
early days of computers, I put together this site.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions or comments about this
site. But be patient, as often my time is limited, and I may take a very
long time to respond. Occasionally, once my inbox gets too full, I
have been known just to delete the whole thing. Be persistent if
you really need something, but between my day job, and my kids (my
number 1 interest) my time for hobby things is quite limited.
To
reach me, you will have the most luck by email, to tejones777 at aol.com.
Of course, the "at" sign would need to be converted to the symbol, but I don't
like spam, so can't write the compact form here. If you're in a hurry, you
can try to reach me at 952-649-2753, a cell number, but I don't answer it during
work hours or if I'm with people, unless it's someone I know.
